THE POWER OF OBEDIENCE

“If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land” – Isaiah 1 : 19

“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth” Deut. 28 : 1

“And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold to obey is better than sacrifice and to hearken than the fat of rams” 1 Sam 15 : 22

INTRO

In this year of His goodness, God is demanding from us total obedience. Obedience is a very powerful weapon in enjoying the goodness of God. Obedience will give you what sacrifice cannot deliver unto you. Obedience will give unto you what prayer cannot give you.

WHAT IS OBEDIENCE?

Obedience is following and doing what God is saying. And the voice of God can only be assessed through the word of God. You can have insight into the word of God only by the power of the Holy Spirit. The voice of God can also be assessed through God’s servant over you. Therefore, never take for granted what God says through His anointed ones.

REQUIREMENTS TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE VOICE OF GOD

1. Be a Believer
Only the redeemed have access to the mysteries of the kingdom of God.
“And he said unto them, unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God; but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables” Mark 4: 11
….”Verily verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God”. John 3 : 3

2. Fear God
“The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will show them his convenants” Psalm 25 : 14 See also Acts 10: 34 – 35

3. Be Humble
“The meek will he guide in judgment; and the meek will he teach his way”. Psalm 25 : 9
“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saiths, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble” James 4 : 6
“The level of your humility will determine the depth of God’s secrets you enjoy from Him.”

4. The Love of God
You gain access to the voice of God when you become God’s friend by loving Him. For instance, Abraham was so close that God could not hide anything from him (Gen 18 : 17)

“Henceforth I call you not servants: for the servant knoweth not what his Lord doeth; but I have called you friends: for all things that I have heard of my father I have made known unto you. John 15: 15

5. Peace
“Be still and you shall know that I am God” Psalm 46 : 10
“And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it”. Isaiah 30 : 21

6. The Holy Spirit
The Holy spirit is what helps you to gain access to the voice of God. “But God hath revealed them unto us by his spirit; for the spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God” 1 Corinthians 2 : 10. See also John 14 : 26

AREAS GOD EXPECT YOUR OBEDIENCE

1. Honour your parents
Honour thy father and thy mother that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. Exodus 20 : 12

2. Provide for your Household
“But if any provide not for his own and especially for those of his own house he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel”. 1Timothy 5 : 8

3. Honour your spouse. 1 Peter 3 : 7
Likewise ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered”

4. Giving to the Poor – Deut. 15 : 11
“For the poor shall never cease out of the land; therefore I commend thee, saying, thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor and to thy needy in the land.

5. Giving to the Prophets: Mathew 10 : 41
“He that receiveth a prophet in name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous men shall receive a righteous men’s reward”

6. Tithe – Leviticus 27 : 30
“And all the tithe of the land whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the tree is the Lord’s it is holy unto the Lord.

CONCLUSION
Brethren, obedience has no substitute. In this year of His Goodness, we should be obedient to God’s commands.
